The Snake Pit is located on the southwest
corner of the square in the red and white tent. Experienced snake
handlers walk amidst a pit of snakes. One handler is available to answer
crowd questions while the other tells you more than you need to know
about a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake.
The snake pit houses hundreds of rattlers
that freely roam inside a glass enclosure. The unique shape and design
of the pit is perfect so that all persons, tall and small, have an
opportunity to get right up next to the snakes without worrying about
the bite.
Each show lasts approximately forty-five
minutes. One dollar at the door will get you in and you can stay as
long as you like. There is no seating inside the pit, but it is a great
way to get out of the sun. Furthermore, the snake pit is adjacent to the
food court. So, on your way to get something to eat, you might as well
come in and learn something that you might not have known about the
rattlesnake.
If you don't visit anywhere else during
the Rattlesnake Derby, you have to visit the Snake pit.
