Each year, young women participate in the "Miss Derby Princess" competition in order to secure a scholarship to Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, OK. Young women that are Juniors and Seniors attending a Greer County high school are eligible to participate in the competition. The participants are judged by out-of-town judges on beauty, poise, friendliness, and personality at a dinner held in their honor. The winner of the competition is announced at a ceremony held at the rattlesnake buying platform on Saturday. Check  the Schedule of Events for the time of the crowning.

The winner of the competition receives a multitude of gifts, a scholarship, and a cash prize. The winner also receives a commemorative plaque as a memento of her accomplishment. In addition, the winner will have the "privilege" of taking a picture with the winner of the Longest Snake Competition. Furthermore, she receives an escort for Saturday afternoon and is the guest of honor at the Hunter's BBQ held Saturday evening.

The Derby Princess is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Mangum Rattlesnake Derby. The Princess serves as ambassador of the Rattlesnake Derby, representing Greer County. Her reign lasts for a full year. The following year, the Princess has the duty to return to the Rattlesnake Derby and pass the crown to the next Princess.
