The Mangum Rattlesnake Derby has
one of the largest flea markets in Oklahoma. Hundreds of vendors
flock to Mangum each year to sell their goods to passing
patrons. Everyone can find something at the flea market.
The flea market fills the streets
and the city square. Along the western stretch lies the food
court. Dozens of food vendors offer several varieties of food
for anybody's palate. All of your festival staples can be found
here. Also, at the northern edge of the food court, patrons can
find seating on the courthouse lawn. The area sits roughly fifty
people. Tables are also set up so that you can eat your meals
without the worry of it dumping in your lap.
The flea market also has a
state-of-the-art bathroom trailer located at the northern edge
of the food court in the intersection. The trailer offers
running water and flushable toilets. The flea market also has
the normal port-a-johns that come with every festival. In
addition, the flea market fully complies with the Americans with
Disabilities Act and offers handicap amenities.
Artist Alley is the newest
addition of the flea market. Located on the west side of the
square, local artists display their very own art work. Patrons
of the flea market can even purchase the priceless art.
The official Rattlesnake Derby
souvenir booth is located at the southwest corner of the square.
Here, you can purchase memorabilia to remember your trip to
Mangum. Hats, t-shirts, coffee mugs, and patches are just some
of the items that you can find here.
Also, the rattlesnake buying
platform is located on the southwest corner. Here, hunters sell
their snakes. Also, all official announcements are made from the
platform. The platform is manned by experienced and
knowledgeable people who can answer any question you might have.
Furthermore, the platform has a huge display in front that
features dozens of snakes. The snakes are put up at night but
are out all day.
Remember, the flea market is
outside, so dress appropriately for the weather and don't forget
the sun screen.
